Osmose® Treated Lumber

What keeps the decks, fences, piers and other outdoor building projects you've built with Great Southern Wood standing strong, season after season? The answer is on the yellow tag at the end of each board of our pressure-treated lumber.

It is impossible to relate the Great Southern Wood story without bringing in Osmose Wood Preserving, Inc., the Buffalo, N.Y., firm that produces the preserving solution essential to the treatment process.

Osmose DeckingToday, Osmose Wood Preserving, Inc. supplies CCA and treating technology to wood treating companies around the world. It is by the distinctive yellow Osmose label and limited lifetime warranty that most consumers know Great Southern Wood's lumber. Osmose is the only U.S.-owned manufacturer of wood preservatives.

Great Southern Wood accepts only the highest quality yellow pine to undergo the preserving process, where the lumber is loaded into giant cylinders. Waterborne, chrome-based Osmose solution is forced deep into the cellular structure of the wood. Under tremendous pressure, the liquid enters the wood to protect against bacteria, fungi, insects and marine organisms that normally feed off its fibers.

The Osmose Exclusive Lifetime Limited Warranty

Osmose® brand wood products are field-tested and performance-proven. A long history of quality, durability and value is proof that Osmose® brand wood products from Great Southern Wood will be around for a long time. This history of reliable service is one of the reasons Osmose offers a Lifetime Limited Warranty against fungal decay and termite attack.

Osmose WeatherShield®

America's Original Water Repellent Pressure Treated Lumber

Since 1970, Osmose has been using WeatherShield to pressure treat wood commercially in the United States. WeatherShield pressure treated wood provides unique protection in two stages

Stage 1 - Slower drying

First, WeatherShield minimizes the initial shock of outdoor exposure by actually slowing the rate of moisture release from the wood's surface.

Stage 2 - Long-term water repellency

In stage 2, WeatherShield provides the wood with long-term protection against water absorption, effectively minimizing the damaging swelling and shrinking of wood brought on by natural weather elements.

All-around protection & durability

Since Osmose WeatherShield Water Repellent is pressure treated right into the wood, it protects all surfaces, including the sides and bottom surface normally missed by spray or brush-on repellents. Plus, pressure treatment ensures that the water repellent penetrates straight through to the heartwood of each board.

As with all Osmose pressure treated wood products, WeatherShield carries our lifetime warranty against termites, rot, and decay.

Don't forget color & surface protection

All wood exposed to the weather will naturally fade in color and eventually turn gray. Osmose WeatherShield pressure treatment actually helps slow down the natural graying process. For maximum protection against degrading UV radiation from the sun, which can oxidize and discolor the surface of wood, follow these simple maintenance steps to keep your WeatherShield wood looking great:

To fully prevent surface discoloration, use quality stain with water repellent for durable, beautiful color.

Enhance the appearance and surface water repellency of Osmose WeatherShield periodically with quality clear water repellent, or stain with water repellent.

Three Color Choices

The application of the pre-stained colorant prior to treatment with Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) preservative produces wood products with the appearance of redwood or cedar for outdoor home improvement projects.
