EON Decking Systems

EON Logo

Eon is an exciting new decking system that's a stunning and indestructible
alternative to wood.
Eon gives you more than just lasting beauty with the look and feel of professionally finished wood. It gives you a complete decking system including decking boards, cladding, balusters, railings, and the unique T-Clip fastening system. The T-Clip system allows for a fastener free decking surface, and a quick and easy installation.

EON DeckWhat is Eon?

Eon is a thermoplastic material manufactured from virgin or recycled plastic to replace wood. It can be made in a myriad of colours and is adaptable to standard wood machining techniques and fastening methods.

Beauty

Like this doesn't grow on

Unlike wood, each eon board is perfect.

EON decking can also be installed at 45 degree angles if desired due to the unique design of the T-clip.
Please drop joist span down to 12" inches on center when installing on a 45 degree angle.
Installation Tips
eons's 5-piece decking system is simple to install

Substructure:

EON Decking and railing is designed to be installed on wood joist with 16" O.C. and 12" O.C. for (45°) decking.
EON decking is 5.5" wide and T-clips are 5/16" wide, new framing should be built to accommodate 5.8125" increments (deck board + T-clip),
For replacement decks, the deck board can be ripped to accommodate the size of the existing sub structure.

eon installation requires gapping

The following equation will provide the spacing required at either end of your EON deck board, Note if one end of deck board is butted tight against an immovable object (i.e. house), twice the space will need to be left at the opposite end of the deck board.

Fahrenheit Spacing

= 0.00003 x (Max Expected Board Temp. - Install. Temp in °F) x 0.5 (Board Length (in).
Fig #1
In such cases where boards are butted end-to-end the spacing should be twice the value of the above calculation in order to compensate for the expansion and contraction of 2 deck boards. In order to reduce the possibility of excessive contraction, double up the joists where boards are butted end to end.

- see Figure 1

Fig #2
Attach first board by pre-drilling and screwing every 8" on a 45° angle through the lip of the deck board into the trim joist

- see Figure 2

Fig #3

Install first row of T-clips (2.5" screws) along inside of deck board on each joist. Do not tighten T-clips until next deck board is firmly pushed into place - see Figure 3.

Alternately tighten loose T-clips while installing next row of T-clips on outside of next deck board. Attach final board by pre-drilling and screwing on a 45° angle through the lip of the deck board every 8".

Rail Installation

Rail InstallationMeasure the distance between the post sleeves and cut handrail pieces accordingly.

The 5' baluster spacer included with the rail should be cut to 3.8" lengths.

Begin assembling the railing section like a ladder, slide a baluster followed by a piece of spacer down each rail, complete the process making sure a baluster is flush with the end of each handrail section - see Figure 5.

Drainage holes (1/4") should be drilled every 2' in the bottom Rail To Postsrail

If bottom railing does not rest directly on the deck surface, use a piece of balusters spacer screwed (3" screw) to the deck surface to support the middle of the railing section-see Figure 5.

Attach railing section to post using 7 (3" screws predrilled) at each end as shown in Figure 5

Installing Post & Sleeve

(4.2"X4.2"X4')

and Cap:

The EON post sleeve is designed to simply slide over an existing 4x4 wood post. The sleeve is secured once the EON railing is attached by screwing 3" screws through the baluster, the sleeve and into the wood posts.

The EON post cap is attached using 3" screws. NOTE: Remember to leave gap for expansion and contraction of deck boards around the posts. *See expansion and contraction formula for proper gapping between deck board and post.

Stairway Decking:

Stairway Pricing

Use 1 deck board for the stair rise and 2 deck boards for the stair run as shown in Figure 6.

T-clips are to be used on the run boards, and the riser board is to be predrilled and attached using 3" deck screws.

Stair stringers should be max 16" O.C.

Handrail Stair Unit Railing:

Handrail Stair Unit RailingUse the pre routered 33° handrail stair unit.

The balusters have been routed at 33° with a rout width that will permit installation of stairs with rise to run angles 26° to 40°.

Set Miter saw angle and cut spacers to 3.8 inches.

Assemble rail pieces according to standard EON handrail procedure, making sure there is a baluster at either end of the section next to the post.
